It's official

Battleford mayor and council officially sworn in to start new term

Nov 17, 2020 | 10:09 AM

It was a proud moment for the Town of Battleford’s newly elected council members Monday night.

All six councillors and Mayor Ames Leslie each formally took the oath of office and signed their declarations to become official members of council.

It was also quite a different type of inaugural meeting, to be sure.

Due to the province’s COVID-19 protocols for gathering, members of the public could not attend. But they were able to view the proceedings online, through a live stream.

Donning their face masks while following social-distancing rules wherever possible, Mayor Ames Leslie and councillors Shelley Boutin-Gervais, Alexis Christensen, David George, Doug Laing, Judy Pruden and Kevin Russell each stood up during the ceremony to take their oaths.

Justice Brenda Hildebrandt appeared virtually, to officially swear in the members.

She concluded the ceremony by fittingly saying her work here is now done, and council’s is just beginning.
