Voting period on for BOB Awards

Nov 2, 2020 | 5:52 PM

Residents of the Battlefords will have another opportunity to spotlight the best of the best in the community this November, with the 2021 BOB Awards.

The annual celebration of individuals and businesses run by battlefordsNOW, the BOB Awards has officially entered the voting phase, with nominations finalized at the end of October. More than 1,850 nominations came in with thousands of votes cast for the nominees.

Kelly Bitner, sales manager for battlefordsNOW and 93.3 The Rock, said the goal of the BOB awards is to inject some pride in local businesses and community members. Whether it’s a business/individual, this provides an opportunity to celebrate individuals who would not receive that adulation otherwise.

“It might be the only recognition that you get over the course of the year,” Bitner said. “A lot of those jobs and roles go under the radar.”

The 1,800 plus nominations are eligible to vote on in six categories; arts and entertainment, food and drink, health, beauty and style, local goodness, shopping and services and sports and recreation. Biter said it’s especially important to recognize local efforts this year, considering the perseverance during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It’s been a challenge for a lot of business and a lot of people, to get some recognition for the business that people have been doing this year,” he said.

In order to vote on the hundreds of categories, voters can go to battlefordsNOW and provide an email address. The voting period ends on November 22, with the winners being announced on November 27.
