Local Humane Society receives $100,000 donation in support of new building

The Battlefords Humane Society has received a $100,000 donation, from the Bill and Betty Heno Fund, that will help support the purchase of land for the new Humane Society building.

The new building will be located on Highway 4 North, in the R.M. of North Battleford.

Bill and Betty Heno were long-time residents of Cochin and their daughter, Barb Heno, provided the donation in their name.

President of the local Humane Society, Dr. Shawn Haas, said they are extremely grateful for the family’s generosity.

“Barb was a long-time client of the clinic and her generous donation has allowed the Humane Society to purchase land that fits our needs very well,” Haas said. “The location is appropriately zoned, visible, and large enough to expand for future projects.”

The Battlefords Humane Society is currently in the design stage for the new building.

The donation that established the Bill and Betty Heno Fund came from Barb Heno, in the form of shares transferred to the Battlefords and District Community Foundation (BDCF).

BDCF Board President, Rob Rongve, said Barb wanted to support a local project in memory of her parents. He said the donation does just that, and reflects the foundation’s mission to provide much-needed support to community groups.
