Unity RCMP are asking for public assistance as they investigate the shooting of a horse near the Village of Senlac.

ON September 6, police in Unity attended a rural property after a caller reported someone shot and killed one of his horses on private land. .

At this time there are no suspects, but illegal hunting activity is suspected.

“Hunting season hasn’t officially started yet,” Const. James Gudjonson of Unity RCMP said. “It’s only open for bow hunting right now, not firearms.”

However, Gudjonson added regulations note the shooting of a horse is not considered hunting.

“It doesn’t look like anything other than a horse and if you’re close enough to shoot it, you know it’s… a horse,” he said.

RCMP in Unity, Wilkie and Macklin are asking all residents in the area to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals or vehicles that are potentially trespassing on private land or appear to be hunting out of season. They are also seeking any relevant information related to this shooting. To make a report, contact RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
