Traffic stop arrest recovers drugs, weapons in North Battleford

A traffic stop on Tuesday resulted in four arrests and the recovery of weapons and drugs.

The North Battleford Gang Task Force initiated the traffic stop on two vehicles in parking lot on railway Avenue, which had one occupant with an outstanding arrest warrant. Weapons were noticed in one of the vehicles, after which four people were arrested and taken into custody following the resulting investigation.

The search of the vehicles recovered quantities of cocaine, crack cocaine, methamphetamine and illicit marijuana. A firearm, Taser and other weapons were also seized.

Forty-year-old Rae Ahenakew and 24 year-old Shynia Skeavington of Mosquito First Nation were charged with possession of cocaine and methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a firearm. Ahenakew was also charged with obstructing a police officer, while Skeavington faces charges of three counts of failing to comply with a probation order, two counts of failing to comply with a probation order and two counts of possession of a weapon.

Thirty-four-year-old Matthew Greer and 24-year-old Desiree Hinse of Biggar were charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. Greer was also charged with operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited, while Hinse faces charges of cocaine possession, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of a weapon while prohibited and obstructing a police officer.

All four accused remain in custody and are appearing for court on September 3 at North Battleford Provincial Court.
