Province records 14 new COVID-19 cases, working with Hutterite communities to prevent further spread

The province has recorded 14 new cases of COVID-19, bringing Saskatchewan’s total to 1,319 cases.

The information was part of the latest daily provincial update.

Of the new cases, one is in the North region, six are in the central region, one in Saskatoon and six in the South region.

One case that tested positive in the province had a pending location which was later determined to be a non-Saskatchewan resident. That case was removed from the province’s total case count.

Of today’s new cases, investigations have revealed nine are from multiple communal living locations across Saskatchewan.

Of the 1,319 cases there are 293 considered active. A total of 1,008 people have recovered.

There are 15 people in hospital, with nine receiving inpatient care. There are three in Saskatoon, one in the central region, four in the South and one in Regina. Six patients are in the intensive care unit with one in the North, three in Saskatoon and two in Regina.

Of the province’s total cases, 202 are travellers, 659 are community contacts (including mass gatherings), 322 have no known exposures and 126 are under investigation by public health.

Across the province 63 cases are health care workers (although not all sourced their infections from work), 348 cases are from the Far North, 282 from the South, 245 are from the Saskatoon area, 193 are from the North, 160 are from the central region and 91 are from the Regina area. There are 210 cases involving people aged 19 and under.

There are 425 cases in the 20 to 39 age range, 416 are in the 40 to 59 age range; 222 in the 60 to 79 age range and 46 among people in the 80-plus age range.

Of the total amount of cases, 50 per cent are females and 50 per cent are males.

There have been 18 deaths related to COVID-19 reported in the province.

To date, 98,510 tests for the virus have been performed in the province. Yesterday 1,804 tests were performed. Testing is now available for anyone who requests it, regardless of whether they have symptoms.

The Ministry of Health and the Saskatchewan Health Authority are working with Hutterite communities to curb the spread of the virus.

The premier spoke with and received a letter from David Tschetter, the Hutterian Safety Council Chair. Tschetter said the province has the full support of the safety council.

“The focus of the HSC has always been to simultaneously support the government and our communities. Regarding COVID-19, our task has been to ensure that Hutterites have the information they need to follow provincial public health orders for the safety of all citizens. We recognize that, although many of our communities are falling in line, there are those who need extra support in order to achieve compliance. The HSC stands at the ready to act in a supportive role to collaborate with you, the ministry, the health authority, and Hutterites to accomplish this,” he said in his letter.
