North Stars barbecue brings team and community together despite rainy weather

Battlefords North Stars fans were treated to a barbecue lunch at Century 21 Prairie Elite on Thursday, where people had the opportunity to get a burger, drink and chips for $5 with all the proceeds going to the team.

North Stars coaches Connor Logan and Owen Lamb were in attendance, as well as local players, Lukamus Lehman and Miller Kramer.

“Happy to go in the community and connect with sponsorships, people that support out team. Glad to get a couple of our incoming guys, Luko and Miller, out there working the barbecue as well,” said Logan.

“It was great, despite the terrain we had to battle through with the weather,” he joked, talking about dealing with a rainy afternoon.

“I think it ended up being a really great event and ended up seeing a lot more people than we anticipated with the rain.”

Logan was happy to see so many people attending to see Lehman and Kramer, who will add local roots to the squad next season.

“They definitely know more people than I do. So, them and Owen, between the three of them, could know the whole city, I would think.”

With a season under his belt, Logan also said it is nice to see and know more people around the community during these events.

“You just build a familiarity and people come to the games and being in a small town, you run into people over and over and you just kind of start to build an attachment to the area and the people around the area.”

As a part of the barbecue, everybody who bought lunch entered to win a MasterChef barbecue. In the end, it was won by Sherry Kilma.

Continuing an offseason interacting with the community, the North Stars announced the registration opening for their street hockey tournament at the street fest in September.
