AAA Stars drop pair to league-leading Pat Canadians

Jan 8, 2018 | 1:00 PM

The Battlefords AAA Stars had trouble generating offence this past weekend as they took on the top team in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League in Regina.

The Stars dropped both games to the Pat Canadians, 4-1 on Saturday and 4-2 on Sunday. They are now 12-17 this season, which is still currently good enough for the eighth and final playoff spot.

In the two weekend games, Battlefords only managed 36 total shots on goal against Regina, who are now 25-3-2-1 this season.

On Saturday, they were outshot 35-17 and got their lone goal from Ian Hillis on a power play in the second period. At the time, the score was already 4-0 for Regina. Neither team scored in the third period.

Sunday’s game saw the Stars jump out to a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Damon McKenzie and Ty Mosimann. The Pat Canadians got one back before the first intermission and then rallied for three third period goals (one was an empty netter) to take the game 4-2.

Joseph Young started both games in goal for the Stars.

The Stars next game is this Saturday at home against the Notre Dame Hounds, who are in second place in the SMAAAHL with a 25-1-0-1 record.
