City of North Battleford to recycle Christmas trees

Jan 6, 2020 | 12:12 PM

Now that the holiday season has come to a close there will be a lot of households in the Battlefords with Christmas trees that are starting to dry out.

Once again, the City of North Battleford will be recycling Christmas trees into chips for mulch.

The city uses the mulch in tree and shrub beds which helps in improving growth and retaining moisture while suppressing weed growth.

This recycling service will run from Jan. 3 to 31. The city requests all lights, strings, wires, ornaments, tinsel and fake snow are removed from the trees before being dropped off. These materials can damage the city’s equipment and when mixed with the mulch, degrades its usefulness.

The drop off for the Christmas trees is open during regular business hours from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the City of North Battleford Parks Shop at 11202 Eighth Avenue.

For more information on the recycling program, contact Dustin MacDonald at the City of North Battleford.
