The Christmas season is a time of giving and what better way to do so than supporting a local fundraiser for cancer research while also catching a couple SPHL games.

The Meota Combines and the Battleford Blues play back-to-back games on Dec. 27 and Dec. 28 and are partnering together to fundraise for Hockey Fights Cancer.

Kyle Gregoire is a player and manager for the Meota Combines and said the entire league will be gathering support through the holidays.

“It [the game] is going to be for first place as both of us are battling for that right now in the league. So it will be a couple of exciting games,” he said.

Gregoire said they have some other activities planned for Friday night’s game.

“We are going to be having a social Friday night at the Hot Stove in the Civic Centre. We’re also going to be having a $500 guaranteed 50/50 draw for that game as well,” he said.

Gregoire said the teams are excited for an opportunity to give back to their communities and support a great cause.

“It is great to support local communities. With Hockey Fights Cancer, everyone has been touched by it in some way or another and it is great to recognize that and try to find a cure eventually,” he said.

Friday’s game will be at 8 p.m. at the Civic Centre in North Battleford with the following game on Saturday being played at 7:30 p.m. at the Battleford Arena.
