The Battlefords North Stars made some noise on the trade market Monday, moving 19-year-old defenceman Ryan Granville to the Yorkton Terriers.

In exchange, the Stars receive a fourth-round draft pick in the 2020 SJHL Bantam Draft and a player development fee.

The move comes one day after the team wrapped up their preseason Sunday night in Bonnyville.

Stars’ head coach and general manager Brayden Klimosko said with three 20-year-olds and a number of younger players pushing for limited roster spots, the decision was made to give the blue liner a chance to earn greater minutes on another team.

“We have some younger guys [coming up], and I also wanted Ryan to get an opportunity to play a significant role,” Klimosko said. “I wish Ryan nothing but the best. He was a big part of the championship team last year.”

Granville, a smooth-skating, two-way defenseman played 32 games with the North Stars last season, picking up two goals and six assists for eight points in his first year of SJHL action.

The Sherwood Park, Alta. product played a key role on the Stars’ blue line last year down the stretch and throughout the postseason. He played 12 games for the team on their run to the Canalta Cup Championship.
