Two people have died after a boat capsized on Lake Diefenbaker Thursday night.

A volunteer member of the Elbow Fire Department said an emergency call came in around 9:30 p.m.

He said two people were in the boat when a storm rolled into the area south of Saskatoon, causing rough water.

Local emergency crews were called in to help STARS Air Ambulance land near the scene.

The source told 650 CKOM one person was found dead on the shoreline near Elbow. A search for the second person continued unsuccessfully until 1 a.m.

The second body was found about 800 metres from the Coteau Boat Launch around 9:30 a.m. Friday.

Marina staff at Lake Diefenbaker said they’re not renting boats to inexperienced boaters Friday after what happened. They’re also concerned about the possibility of more storms.
