Northwest Territorial Days off to a steady start in the Battlefords

Aug 17, 2016 | 7:00 PM

The exhibition grounds were abuzz for the first day of the midway at Northwest Territorial Days.

Kids and adults alike went on rides, chowed down on food, played games and checked out some shows at the Battlefords Exhibition Grounds on Wednesday, Aug. 17.

Six-year-old Meryn Greenwald won a few prizes Wednesday afternoon when she popped two out of three balloons playing darts to take home a plush puppy face.

After her win, Greenwald said she was looking forward to going on some rides and eating a lot of food.

Her mom, Roxanne Greenwald, said she was a bit surprised by her daughter’s dart skills, seeing as she doesn’t have the game at home.

She said she was happy to be at the exhibition with her family.

“My favourite part is just seeing all the kids so happy to go on the rides,” she said. “It’s all a lot of fun.”

The 129th annual exhibition features a midway with a variety of rides, games and food vendors. There’s also lots of other entertainment, like the Super Dogs, an acrobatics show and chariot races.

Brothers Dallyn and Ryder Loewen were at the grounds trying out the rides with some friends.

My favourite “would have to be the Zipper,” Dallyn said. “It’s pretty fun because you just spin around and around.”

Northwest Territorial Days continues Thursday and Friday at the Battlefords Exhibition Grounds.
