Saskatchewan blanks Team Atlantic 3-0 at women’s under-18 championship

REGINA — Chantal Burke stopped all 28 shots she faced as Saskatchewan shut out Team Atlantic 3-0 on Wednesday night in the first day of play at the Canadian women’s under-18 championship.

Sophie Shirley had a goal and an assist for Saskatchewan (1-0-0), while Jenna MacLean and Grace Shirley also scored.

Ava Boutilier made 36 saves in net for Team Atlantic (0-1-0).

Also, Alice Fillion and Gabrielle David had two goals each to lead Quebec past Alberta 6-2.

Rosalie Demers and Tamara Thierus also scored for Quebec (1-0-0). Stephanie Markowski and Dara Greig replied for Alberta (0-1-0).

Miranda Gaudet scored with 1:39 remaining in regulation as British Columbia erased a one-goal deficit in the third period to defeat Manitoba 3-2.

Shay-lee McConnell opened scoring for B.C. (1-0-0) and Alex Allan found the back of the net in the third. Holly Reuther and Ashley McFadden supplied the offence for Manitoba (0-1-0).

Daryl Watts struck twice to lead Ontario Red past Ontario Blue 4-1.

Coralie Larose and Lexie Adzija chipped in for Ontario Red (1-0-0). Kathryn Rankin was the lone scorer for Ontario Blue (0-1-0).
