Pink Day to take over Aquatic Centre

Feb 17, 2017 | 2:07 PM

Wintertainment week is set to kick off soon and Pink Day will be a highlight.

Between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 22 the Aquatic Centre is inviting families to participate in coloured ice games and frozen T-shirt races to support anti-bullying efforts.

This is the fifth “Pink Day” in North Battleford but according to Candace Dustan, the director of Wintertainment, this year is made more special because it will be a part of Wintertainment week. Last year featured a frozen T-shirt contest, where participants competed to break apart a frozen T-shirt and be the first to put it on.

“It’s hilarious and is one of my favorite races,” Dustan said.

The director added roughly 200 people showed up to swim last year and expects even more this year because Pink Day falls on the February break.

“Kids are off school so they have all day to swim,” Dustan said. “With the waves and water slides being turned on at 1 p.m. I do expect a bigger turn out.”

According to Dustan, anyone who shows up wearing pink will get half off admission, something only 21 people took advantage of last year. Last year Pink Day raised roughly $300 for the Red Cross, a number Dustan hopes to beat this year.

However, one thing which won’t be included this year is the pink dye added to the water. Dustan said the water filters are “too good” and the dye was filtered too fast for anyone to notice the colouring last year.
