Students in the Battlefords had the opportunity to interact with Indian Relay riders before a busy weekend of racing.

Eighteen-year-old Kaleal Jackson from the team In It 2 Win It, is one of several racers who will be featured this weekend.

“I’ve been racing for a long time, since I was about 11,” he said. “My uncle Corey Jackson, back in 2018 won the World Championships in Washington. I just kind of looked up to him and knew I could get that determination. It’s just kind of in our blood, so I just had to keep it going.”

For Jackson, getting to showcase his skills to youth in the Battlefords was a special experience.

“It really means a lot. Just for people to look up at me, whoever looks up at me; to show pride and what do you do as a person and who you are.”

During the youth exhibition, students also interacted with riders from teams White Lightening, and Northern Sky.

All three teams will be featured in this year’s races available to the public on May 17 and 18 at the North Battleford exhibition grounds. These races will feature local teams in men’s relay, chief race, warrior race, lady warrior race, and kid’s races.
