Toy craze to benefit Jumpstart charity

Dec 20, 2016 | 4:00 PM

People can enter in-store from Dec. 21 until Dec. 24, when the winners will be announced at noon.Anyone in the Battlefords area still looking for one of the most highly sought-after gifts this year may be in luck.

While Hatchimals, Furby-like toys that hatch out of eggs, have been selling out around the world since their release in October, the North Battleford Canadian Tire was able to secure two more just before the holidays.

Brett Payne said he and the rest of the local staff decided against a free-for-all, and instead want to give everyone in the community a shot at getting one.

“We’re going to give everyone a chance, so for Canadian Tire’s charity Jumpstart we’re going to do one promotion where if you donate $5 or more to Jumpstart, you’ll get an entry to win it. The other one will be just a pure silent auction, so you put your bid in a box and the highest bid will win it,” he said.

All proceeds from the promotion will go to Jumpstart, an organization that helps kids in financial need participate in organized sport.

“Every dollar goes right to the kids in our community,” Payne said. “It goes to fund registration and, or equipment to get involved in sports so it gives all kids in our community a chance to get into sports.”
