Golf tournament funds will help improve hospital’s dental equipment

Unless you, or someone who know, needed dental surgery it may come as a surprise the Battlefords Union Hospital performs over 500 a year and that number could go up with a new X-ray machine.

Innovation Credit Union announced the funds raised at this year’s Wayne Prudent Memorial Golf Tournament will fund a dental X-ray machine at the Battlefords Union Hopsital (BUH). The bank donated $6,000 towards the machine yesterday, May 3.

This will be the 21st anniversary of the tournament which will be held on Monday, June 5 at the North Battleford Golf and Country Club. The tournament always sells out and this year is no different. There are already two teams on the waiting list.

Each year funds raised go towards the BUH Foundation to help fund equipment. Last year’s funds went toward the purchase of an Alenti tub chair bath for the Battlefords Region homecare.

According to BUH Foundation executive director, Claudette McGuire, the hospital performed 524 dental surgeries last year and 98 per cent of those were on children 10 years old or younger.

“Currently there are 10 dental surgeons who use our facility,” McGuire said. Adults only account for one to two percent of surgical patients. The benefits of this machine include improved ergonomics and enhanced clinical abilities and efficiency.  Of course this can only mean one thing and that’s enhanced patient care for you and your family.”

According to McGuire the machine should help avoid referring patients to other hospitals like Saskatoon. Hospital staff tries its hardest to fulfill all patients’ needs locally.
