Kinsmen Band concludes season with ‘In Celebration of Spring’

Under the direction of Jackie Kroczynski, North Battleford City Kinsmen (NBCK) Band concluded their season with their annual musical performance called “In Celebration of Spring” at the Dekker Centre yesterday.

The NBCK Band was established over 60 years ago, and their performances have deep roots in the community.

Kroczynski believes musical performances such as In Celebration of Spring are a reciprocal experience for both musicians and the audience. “[Music] isn’t meant to be played in a box; it’s not for one person,” she said. “It’s for everybody, and people take great joy out of playing for others… the musician gives to the listener, and the listener reciprocates in how they respond.”

The NBCK Band’s performance consisted of variety of light hearted, intense and eerie songs, using a medley of woodwind, brass and percussion instruments.

In September, the NBCK Band will start up again once the completion of the planned renovations taking place at their band hall during the summer, and Kroczynski welcomes anyone who has an instrument to join the band when operations resume.

“We encourage people to come out and join the band, because there’s something for everybody,” Kroczynsky said. “There’s [sic] lots of people around town who used to play, and then they stopped because that’s how life goes sometimes, and we’d love to see them come back and join us.”
