One dead in Maidstone house fire and explosion

One man is dead after an explosion at a residence South of Maidstone.

Maidstone RCMP and the Maidstone Fire Department responded to an explosion and fire just after 6 p.m. on Nov. 2, at a rural residence South of the community, according to a news release.

A man was found dead inside the residence and another, believed to be outside the residence at the time of the explosion, was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Significant damage was caused to the building.

RCMP do not believe the cause of the explosion was criminal in nature and said there is no danger to the public and no concerns with local gas infrastructure.
