Suspect arrested in cancelled Amber Alert case

Jul 4, 2017 | 8:32 PM

UPDATE: Jared John Charles has been taken into custody by the Prince Albert Police Service.

Investigators are searching for a man suspected of abducting a Prince Albert child earlier today.

Police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating Jared John Charles, 19, who is from St. Louis, Saskatchewan.

He is described as having dark skin, glasses, long shaggy hair, wearing a dark ball cap, a red shirt and dark pants. Police say he was driving a 2002 black four-door Chrysler Neon with a rear spoiler. The vehicle was seen leaving the area where the girl was abducted, heading North on Olive Diefenbaker Drive.

The license on the vehicle is a Saskatchewan plate: 525 KQI.

If you see Charles, police say to not approach him and contact the Prince Albert Police Service immediately. Anyone with any information is urged to call the detachment directly at 306-953-4222.

Charles was charged with abduction last September after taking two young boys from the La Ronge area to his grandmother’s home. The incident also triggered an Amber Alert. Those charges were ultimately dropped because Crown found the incident did not fit the legal requirements.
