Community service on display through John Paul II
The spirit of community service and volunteerism is alive in a Battlefords school.
Wednesday Sept. 21 was Community Service and Awareness Day at John Paul II Collegiate with the community service fair in the school library. The fair allows local groups to set up displays and have the students learn about and sign up for the different volunteering opportunities in the community.
School Chaplain Roxanne Stynsky said each John Paul II student has to complete 10 hours of community service per year through a Christian Ethics class.
“Most kids achieve more than that. We have kids that have completed up to 300 to 400 community service hours in one year that are striving and have passions for different organizations. Community service is a big passion in our school and something that we definitely promote and want our kids to engage in,” she said.
