More than 1,000 blizzards sold this morning in N.B. for Miracle Treat Day

Local Dairy Queen workers started making blizzards at 6 a.m. today, and the owner of the restaurant says all the hard work is paying off.

It was Miracle Treat Day at Dairy Queens across the country on Thursday, Aug. 11, where all proceeds from the purchase of any blizzard treat go to the Children’s Miracle Network. North Battleford Dairy Queen owners Terry and Jennifer Burnett were kept busy all day, with a packed restaurant and orders sent out to businesses.

Terry said the store sold 1,000 blizzards before 11 a.m. a lot of which was due to pre-orders.

“We know that it goes to a great cause and I think the businesses in town realize that too,” he said. “Basically what it comes down to is it’s for the children and it’s the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital Foundation in Saskatoon, so anything raised here stays here in Saskatchewan.”

The North Battleford Dairy Queen donated nearly $11,000 to the Children’s Miracle Network last year for Miracle Treat Day. Burnett said Thursday afternoon they were well on their way to surpassing that and are hoping to raise $13,000 this year.

Another treat today were balloons for everyone from kids to adults. Larry ‘The Balloon Man’ Goodall was there to craft flowers, guitars, bracelets and more for customers. Goodall said it’s his job to make people smile and he was seeing a lot of happy faces on Thursday.

“I think they’re just generally happy to be here,” he said. “Dairy Queen is a good place but today is such a special day, we can just reach out there and help our children.”
