Battlefords ready for fifth annual ‘Meet a Machine’ event

The Battlefords Early Years Family Resource Centre is preparing for its fifth annual Meet-A-Machine event.

Children six and younger and their families can explore machines of all shapes and sizes and interact with their operators. Each year, hundreds of people attend, while several community organizations and businesses volunteer their time and equipment.

The event will take place Sept. 20 from 9 a.m. to noon outside the InnovationPlex. It gives young children an early learning experience and fosters positive family connections between caregivers and their children.

A scavenger hunt will help children learn while having fun.

For children who are sensitive to noise, there will be a designated quiet hour from 9 to 10 a.m., with no horns or sirens. NationsWEST Field House will also provide free indoor recreation for young children and their families from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Discovery Co-op Kids Club will provide snacks and drinks for everyone attending.

Event organizers include the Battlefords Early Years Family Resource Centre coordinator and program designer, as well as the Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Battlefords program lead and coordinating adult ally.

The City of North Battleford provides equipment from its public works and transit departments. Battlefords Kids First provides enough books for every child attending to take home a book about a machine. The Battlefords Early Childhood Intervention Program, current family resource centre staff and friends also help the event run smoothly and safely.
