Graduation Day: NBCHS valedictorian celebrates high school experience

Jun 26, 2026 | 2:19 PM

High school graduation season is well underway, with North Battleford Comprehensive High School holding its graduation ceremony most recently.

Roughly 140 students walked across the stage Friday to receive their diplomas. Among them was Anwyn Mannix, who was named the 2026 valedictorian.

“It’s really nice to be recognized for that,” said Mannix, who also sang the national anthem at the graduation ceremony.

Mannix attended the school since Grade 8 and took part in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, which is designed to prepare students for university and professional careers through advanced courses in English, French, History, Sciences, Math, and the Arts.

“It’s been a really good experience, I was in the IB program from Grade 9 onwards, so that’s really solidified a nice group of friends for me.”

She will attend the University of Saskatchewan in the fall, with the goal of one day becoming an optometrist. A few classmates and friends are also going to the U of S, with some even taking the same program. Mannix said that should help as they head into the next chapter, giving them someone to lean on for support.

“I can always ask, what was the homework again?” she joked.

As everyone begins their new journeys, Mannix reflected on the growth of her classmates over the years.

“I can definitely see the first time they were in Grade 8, they’re not the same person anymore.”
