CHAMBER OF COMMERCE GOLF CHALLENGE

Battlefords & District Chamber of Commerce holds successful 12th golf business challenge

May 23, 2026 | 12:09 PM

The North Battleford Golf and Country Club played host to the 12th annual Chamber Business Golf Challenge on Friday.

A total of 144 golfers representing a range of companies took part in the community event, which gave participants a chance to golf, win prizes, have fun and learn about local businesses they may not have known about before.

“We had a sellout crowd,” said Chamber of Commerce Chief Operating Officer Linda Machniak. “We had great weather, the best day so far/ Great sponsors, lots of fun on the golf course. Lots of activities and fun things for golfers to do, always have so much fun.”

Golfers had the chance to take part in various challenges and fun holes. They included hole-in-one contests with $10,000 and $15,000 prizes, as well as longest drive, straightest drive, closest-to-the-pin and longest putt competitions.

Players could also take part in pre-hole challenges such as bucket golf, putting mat challenges and junior golf club challenges.

There were also novelty holes, including the fastest hole in golf, teeing off while sitting on a toilet and the heckle hole hosted by CJNB radio host Grant Schutte.

Players could pay Schutte to heckle someone of their choosing. They could also pay to avoid being heckled or have Schutte take their tee shot for them.

Schutte couldn’t resist a heckle, even when he was on the tee.

“The Heckler hole, of course, is always good,” said Chamber of Commerce chief operating officer Linda Machniak. This was her final golf challenge with the Chamber of Commerce before retiring later this year.

“I’m proud of all 12 of the ones that we’ve done because they’re each unique in their own way. We have great support from the business community, the sponsors, and the participants. It’s awesome, we already have some folks booked to come next year.”

Machniak also spoke about the importance of the tournament in connecting people with businesses in the community.

“We’ve had a first-time host-a-hole rep who was thrilled with the day. She said, ‘I didn’t know I know so many people all in one spot on one day,’ so she was really happy to host a hole there where she could meet people,” said Machniak.

“It’s a unique tournament for sure that people have the opportunity to have their business showcased, but also the golfers get to meet and see different businesses that they might not otherwise see.”

The successful golf challenge marked another day of people from around the Battlefords coming together to support the Chamber of Commerce, the local business community and the start of the warm-weather season.
