North Battleford hires former Kindersley mayor as new city manager

North Battleford has appointed a former Saskatchewan mayor and current New Brunswick administrator as its next city manager ahead of Randy Patrick’s retirement this summer.

The city announced Tuesday that John Enns-Wind will take over the position effective July 7. Patrick is set to retire June 30 after eight years with the city.

Enns-Wind currently serves as chief administrative officer for the Town of Grand Bay-Westfield, N.B. He previously served as CAO for the Town of Battleford and was formerly mayor of Kindersley.

Mayor Kelli Hawtin said, “We’re really confident in Mr. Enns-Wind’s abilities to fulfill the role to continue to support council’s strategic plan and support administration at the city.”

Hawtin said the city received strong interest during the recruitment process, with several competitive candidates applying for the role.

“The one thing that stands out about Mr. Enns-Wind is his desire to return to the Battlefords after having lived here,” she said.

“We’re excited to see where that takes us.”

According to the city, Enns-Wind has roughly 15 years of municipal leadership experience and has worked extensively in regional collaboration and economic development initiatives.

Hawtin said his previous experience in Saskatchewan and work alongside First Nations and municipal leaders made him a strong fit for the region.

The retiring city manager also voiced strong support for the appointment.

“He will surpass me,” Patrick said.

“I’m quite certain of a very, very good candidate council’s got and I’m looking forward to passing on the reins.”

Patrick called serving North Battleford “an absolute privilege” and said the role has been “one of the most important parts” of his professional life.

“I hope I’ve made a difference and I know that there’s a lot more to be done. So, looking forward to seeing council as that happens with their new city manager.”

To accommodate the transition, Randy has agreed to extend his employment with the city through to July 10.
