OTTAWA — The federal government has announced it will contribute $9.8 million to help Canada Soccer build a national training centre.

The money, from the Build Communities Strong Fund, will go toward the planning, design and pre-construction.

Secretary of Sport Adam van Koeverden said at an announcement in Vancouver on Thursday that the funds are part of $250 million Ottawa has earmarked for sports infrastructure across the country.

The federal government announced in its spring economic update this week that it’s setting aside $660 million over the next five years for national sport organizations that have faced mounting deficits for years.
