North Stars host the Yorkton Terriers with a chance to move on to the Canterra Seeds Cup Finals

Apr 13, 2026 | 12:15 PM

The Battlefords North Stars are hosting the Yorkton Terriers tonight in game six of the Sask. Junior Hockey League semifinals. Leading the series 3-2, the North Stars have the opportunity to punch their ticket to the Canterra Seeds Cup Finals with a victory.

A finals appearance would be their first since they won the Canterra Seeds Cup in 2023. They have the opportunity after a 3-2 victory in Yorkton in game five on Saturday.

Cole Hines had a pair of goals in game five, while Kaeden Serpa stopped 31 of the 33 shots that he saw.

“It was a back-and-forth game, like it’s been for most of the series. Coming back tonight, it’s going to be a lot of the same. It’s a good team across from us. It’s two elite teams. Margins are slim,” said North Stars head coach Connor Logan.

Although the last game of the series in the Battlefords ended in a 7-2 Terriers win, the North Stars still hold a 4-1-0 record on home ice, a tie with the Flin Flon Bombers for the best home record in the league.

The last time the North Stars had a chance to win a series at home, they did so in double overtime against the Melfort Mustangs when Linken Fisher scored the game winning goal on March 28.

Heading into a game with a chance to win a series could come with a different mental approach, but Logan said that isn’t the case for his squad.

“Every game matters. It’s not like there’s any difference in mentality tonight or game one. You could argue (that) how you start the series is as important,” said Logan.

“For us, it’s another game. Another game for us to go out there, execute, get everybody going, everybody bought in…If we control the things that are controllable and we manage our emotions, then we’ve given ourselves a chance to win. That’s all you can ask for on a nightly basis.”

Although he has been held pointless in his last pair of games, North Stars forward Josh Knittig still leads the league in points with 17 (6G-11A) in 10 games. Knittig is in a three-way tie for the team lead in goals with Finlay Klippenstein and Alessio Nardelli with six goals apiece.

Gabriel Courchesne leads the Terriers in points with 14 (3G-11A) in 11 games, which is second in the lead. Terriers blueliner Thomas Ries leads the team in goals with seven, which is also tied for the league lead.

Napa Auto Parts North Stars hockey begins at 7:30 p.m. The Ultra Print pregame show is half an hour before puck drop on CJNB/CJNS.
