Three arrested

Man back behind bars after tampering with monitoring bracelet

A 29-year-old man was arrested at a home on the Thunderchild First Nation on July 11, by members of the Battlefords RCMP Crime Reduction Team and officers from the Turtleford detachment.

Donnie Okanee had reportedly been released with an electronic monitoring bracelet following his arrest on charges of aggravated assault stemming from a fight outside a business in North Battleford on May 11.

The victim of the assault was hospitalized with serious injuries.

On July 9, Okanee is alleged to have removed the bracelet he was supposed to wear for his court-ordered 24-hour curfew.

Police learned he was in a residence in Thunderchild and got a warrant for his re-arrest. When they did not get co-operation from the people inside the house, the dog unit and drone units were called in.

Of the seven people that were arrested, four were released without charges. Okanee is now further charged with resisting arrest and three counts of failing to comply with a release order.

He was also charged with assault and uttering threats in connection with a July 10 incident on the Thunderchild First Nation.

Tariq Nicotine, also of Thunderchild, was arrested at the scene on seven outstanding warrants from Turtleford and North Battleford. A count of resisting arrest was also added.

The third man to face charges was 27-year-old Logan Jimmy from Thunderchild First Nation. He was charged with resisting arrest, breaching a conditional sentence order and three counts of failing to comply with a release order.

All three made their first court appearances on July 12 in North Battleford Provincial Court.
