Hepatitis A is a liver infection caused by a virus that is spread by ingesting something that has been contaminated with the stool (feces) of someone who has the disease.

It can cause the following symptoms: loss of appetite, dark urine, light stool, tiredness, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, and jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes). Serious complications may include liver failure and death.

Hepatitis A can be prevented through vaccination. If you are unsure of your Hepatitis A vaccination status, please check your health record on MySaskHealthRecord. For more information on the Hepatitis A infection or the vaccine, visit saskhealthauthority.ca.
