Man arrested for allegedly holding woman against her will on Big Island Territory

A 30-year-old man from Big Island Lake Cree Territory is being charged for allegedly holding a woman against her will.

At around 12:30 a.m. this past Saturday, RCMP officers were conducting a curfew check on Riley Kahpoonapit who was on court-ordered conditions.

When they arrived at his home they heard someone calling for help. They ended up finding a seriously injured woman who needed to be taken to hospital.

Through an investigation, they determined she was assaulted and held against her will.

Kahpoonapit has since been charged with unlawful confinement, aggravated assault, uttering threats, mischief, and failing to comply with release order conditions.
