The trial for a man charged in the death of Cindy MacKay back in 2020 has been rescheduled.

Michael MacKay, 41, is facing a charge of first-degree murder in the death of his wife.

The accused’s five-week jury trial was originally planned to start Oct. 16, 2023, at the Court of King’s Bench in Battleford.

He’s now scheduled for a private pre-trial conference on Oct. 20 with a new trial date still to be set.

The Crown prosecutor in the case is Oryn Holm, while the defence counsel is Nicholas Stooshinoff.

The accused was arrested on March 18, 2021, and later released after being granted bail in April of that year.

A preliminary inquiry in the case was held in North Battleford Provincial Court intermittently in March and April of 2022.

None of the allegations against MacKay have been proven in court.

RCMP previously reported Cindy MacKay, 38, was transported to hospital in medical distress on Feb. 7, 2020. She later died in hospital five days later.
