RCMP investigate shooting incident at Canoe Lake Cree First Nation

Two people have been arrested, and two additional suspects are wanted by police in connection to a shooting incident this week in northwest Saskatchewan.

Early Wednesday morning, Beauval RCMP received a report of a firearm discharge at Canoe Lake Cree First Nation.

Officers immediately responded and determined there were shots towards two residences in the community. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported.

The incident is not believed to be random in nature and upon searching the residence, officers found and seized a restricted firearm, ammunition and other weapons..

A man and a woman from the community were arrested without incident and face a number of gun-related charges.

As a result of continued investigation, RCMP have also charged 24-year-old Marissa McCallum from Jan’s Bay and 32-year-old Shannon Opikokew from Canoe Narrows each with one count of discharging a firearm while being reckless.

Warrants have been issued for their arrests. McCallum, who is also wanted for breaching a conditional sentence order, is described as approximately 5’6” with a medium build. She has brown hair and brown eyes.

Opikokew is described as approximately 5’7” and 145 lbs. She has black hair and brown eyes.
