P.A. council set to discuss budget increases for several projects including event centre

Sep 5, 2023 | 6:00 AM

Prince Albert’s council is set to discuss increasing the design budget for the proposed event centre in The Yard District.

According to the city’s administration, it needs to rise by around $700,000 since the overall cost of the project has risen.

Council will also debate whether or not to allocate $750,000 from the Future Infrastructure Reserve to fix the Harry Jerome Track in Prime Minister’s Park. The track is in need of repairs and was in bad enough shape that a committee had to decline to host provincial track and field events in 2024.

Also on the agenda is upping the budget for a new Pumper Fire Engine by $40,000 to just over $1.4 million. According to a report, the vehicle that council originally approved buying was oversold by the company which resulted in the city having to purchase a more expensive one. The company is covering the remaining costs over $40,000.

Meanwhile, council will also discuss paying legal fees for Councillor Dawn Kilmer, the costs of installing a sprinkler system on the riverbank, and changing two billboards into digital billboards.

Their meeting gets underway on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
