Town of Battleford terminates Alam from CAO position

The Town of Battleford has confirmed that Ash Alam has been terminated from his position as CAO.

Alam started with the town in October 2020 after previously serving as CAO in Buffalo Narrows.

The Town of Battleford previously said Alam was out of the country staying in Dubai initially, after leaving Canada in April. Alam then went to Bangladesh. He was said to have left Canada for a family matter.

The Town appointed an interim CAO on April 27 after Alam had been away for about a month. The last meeting he attended, in a virtual capacity, was on April 10.

Mayor Ames Leslie confirmed council decided to terminate Alam on June 6. He was officially let go on June 9.

“The last council meeting he [Alam] attended was April 10, and there was no communication or approval for his absence,” Leslie said. “He missed a couple of deadlines of showing up back to work, so council made the decision to terminate due to his absence and abandonment of his position of CAO.”
