Mayor sends condolences on passing of longtime city staff member

May 25, 2023 | 4:06 PM

City of North Battleford Mayor David Gillan took a moment at the end of city council’s meeting to send condolences on behalf of council and the city to the family of longtime city staff member Tammy MacCormack who passed away earlier this week.

“I mention with a note of sadness,” Gillan said. “We lost a colleague in our city.”

MacCormack started with the City of North Battleford on April 1, 2013. She began with the city as an Engineering Technologist in 2013, before advancing to the position of Assistant Director of Operations on Jan. 1, 2020.

“She has been battling cancer for a number of years, and succumbed to her cancer [overnight Monday],” Gillan said. “Only 49 years old. So much to still live. It’s such a sad thing.”

Gillan added he remembers MacCormack sitting around the table at city meetings, and mentioned that he also worked with her before at the city as well.

“It’s hard to believe, at such a young age to be [going],” he added.

MacCormack was also on the Midwest Food Resources board for many years. She was a president on the board in 2019.

Executive Director Vesna Fa mentioned to battlefordsNOW that MacCormack was very resourceful and knowledgeable in a number of areas, and shared her ideas about an organic system of composting.

“I learned so much from her,” Fa said. “She taught me a new way of composting, which is Bokashi.”
