UPDATE: Police find one accused in assault on Flying Dust First Nation, one still remains at large

May 20, 2023 | 10:29 AM

UPDATE: Police reported Wednesday that Meadow Lake RCMP located and arrested one of the wanted youths in Meadow Lake. The accused, who can’t be identified in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is scheduled to appear in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on May 25.

Meadow Lake RCMP continue to search for the other wanted youth. Anyone with information is asked to contact the RCMP or Crime Stoppers.

Original Story

Two youth boys have been charged with attempted murder after a shooting on the Flying Dust First Nation.

At around 2:30 Tuesday morning, Meadow Lake RCMP received a report of a shooting at a home on the reserve. Upon arriving at the residence, they found an injured man who was then taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The man is said to be in stable condition.

RCMP investigation has determined that the two boys approached the home where an altercation broke out between the two parties, resulting in one of the boys shooting the man. The boys then fled the scene and remain at large.

With assistance from North Battleford RCMP and Saskatoon Provincial General Investigation Sections, Meadow Lake RCMP has charged the youths with one count each of attempted murder among numerous other offences. A warrant has been issued for both of their arrests.

Since the boys are both under 18, their names cannot be released as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act. However, a provision under the act will allow their names to be released under certain circumstances including assisting in apprehending them. Meadow Lake RCMP is currently looking into that possibility.

RCMP believes that there are individuals who have information on the incident and on the whereabouts of the two boys. Anyone with information on the incident is being asked to contact RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
