Robbery Attempt

Robbery suspects allegedly hide in crawl space to avoid arrest in Buffalo Narrows

Mar 9, 2023 | 5:22 PM

RCMP are charging two people after they allegedly were caught trying to rob a residence in Buffalo Narrows.

Around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, officers were called to a property on the 1000th block of Seright Place in the community. They quickly found out that two people were involved and they were believed to still be in the residence.

After getting a warrant to search the property, they went inside and soon heard movement coming from the crawl space. They also found evidence to suggest that the suspects may have a firearm, so they ended up securing a perimeter around the residence.

They made sure all neighbours were safe before calls were made for the suspect to turn themselves in.

A 26-year-old woman exited the residence and was arrested without incident. Shortly after, a 20-year-old man was also arrested without incident.

The man, later identified as Johnny Thompson, has since been charged with robbery, assault with a weapon, resisting arrest, and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order. He made his first court appearance on Mar. 9 in La Loche.

Jade Chartier, the woman arrested in the incident, has been charged with possession of stolen property. She is scheduled to appear in court on May 10, 2023, in Buffalo Narrows.
