COVID levels see big drop in P.A. but remain large in North Battleford: study

COVID levels in Prince Albert aren’t considered large for the first time in weeks according to the University of Saskatchewan.

Researchers studying the virus through the community’s wastewater claim the current viral load is down 61 per cent from last week.

The large drop is putting P.A.’s levels in the ‘medium’ category, meaning levels are still relatively high but much lower than what the city has been averaging over the past 10 weeks.

After several weeks where levels were some of the highest recorded by the U of S during the pandemic, the current levels are the 17^th largest.

As for North Battleford, the city’s levels are down roughly 12 per cent from last week.

Since the current viral load is larger than average over the past 10 weeks, the U of S is considering it to be large.

The levels are also the 11^th largest recorded during the pandemic.

Saskatoon, the third city having its wastewater studied by the U of S, saw the smallest decrease in levels, staying relatively the same as last week. Levels there are also being considered large due to the same reasoning as North Battleford.

Saskatoon’s levels are also the 10^th largest recorded during the pandemic.

The U of S has been studying each community’s wastewater since August 2021.
