North Battleford’s CUplex now known as InnovationPlex

People visiting the multiplex at Carlton Trail in North Battleford will want to note the new name of the facility.

The city reported this week the venue will now be known as InnovationPlex recreation and cultural centre, instead of the CUplex going forward.

“Innovation Credit Union is thrilled to announce a name refresh for both North Battleford’s CUplex and Swift Current’s Innovation iPlex. Effective immediately both event complexes will be called the InnovationPlex,” the city said in a release.

Innovation CEO Daniel Johnson stated the organization wanted to align the names of all its sponsored facilities as it progresses to become a federal credit union.

“We saw the opportunity to refresh both the CUplex and iPlex’s name to be InnovationPlex,” he said.

Innovation Credit Union has held the naming rights for both complexes for more than 10 years.

The issue was previously discussed in January 2022 when Innovation Credit Union made the announcement in a presentation to North Battleford city council.

The local multi-purpose complex houses the Dekker Centre for the Performing Arts, the Battlefords CO-OP Aquatic Centre, the NationsWEST Field House and the Northland Power Curling Centre.

Innovation is expecting to become a federally-regulated credit union this year, so wanted to introduce its re-branding plans around the same time, and modernize its logo.

The City of North Battleford plans to update the facility signage in the coming months to reflect the changes.
