Families come together to take in Canada Day fireworks

Families celebrated Canada Day in the Battlefords Friday by taking in the annual fireworks display.

Many gathered at the Don Ross Centre Hill and along South Railway Avenue to get a good view of the show taking place at King Hill in North Battleford.

In 2020, the fireworks display was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and in 2021 people had to stay in their cars, with only those from the same family occupying each vehicle due to restrictions. So, everyone was glad to be able to get out and finally relax again this year.

Querida Dufraine took in the show with her four daughters and was happy to have everything back to normal.

“The girls were pretty excited this year,” she said.

William Petryk brought his travel camera to take some pictures of the fireworks.

Decked out in their festive Canada Day-themed fashion, the Friggstad family also attended the event, gathering at the Don Ross Centre Hill.

“We’re proud Canadians,” said Mom Miena Friggstad. “We appreciate the First Nations and we appreciate our ancestors who came from Europe.”

The family moved to the Battlefords from Regina about eight years ago to be closer to their relatives in Saskatoon and Edmonton.

“We love the Battlefords,” Miena said.
