Apr 25, 2022 | 12:07 PM

The preliminary inquiry recently wrapped for a man facing a charge in the death of Cindy MacKay in 2020.

Michael MacKay, 39, is facing a charge of first degree murder in the death of his wife Cindy MacKay of the Meota area.

The accused was arrested March 18, 2021. He was released after being granted bail in April of that year following a hearing at the Court of Queen’s Bench in Battleford.

A preliminary inquiry in the case was held in North Battleford provincial court intermittently in March and April of 2022.

None of the allegations against MacKay have been proven in court. A publication ban was in effect during the hearing.

A trial will now take place at the Court of Queen’s Bench in Battleford with a date still to be determined. The accused is next scheduled for a private pre-trial conference on May 20.

RCMP previously reported Cindy MacKay, 38, was transported to hospital in medical distress Feb. 7, 2020. She later died in hospital on Feb. 12, 2020.
