RCMP Report Pt.1: Business rammed in Battleford

Apr 21, 2022 | 5:00 AM

Battlefords RCMP are investigating multiple break-ins in the community, including one from Monday morning that left the entrance of a business in Battleford damaged.

A black pickup appears to have rammed into the front door of the building on 22nd St. shortly before 5:00 a.m. in order to gain entry. Based on the surveillance footage that’s available, Sgt. Neil Tremblay said the detachment believes there are three suspects involved and are hoping to gain more evidence to possibly identify the vehicle.

“If we get better photos or video surveillance footage, we will send it out,” he said. Right now, we can’t tell if the plate is dirty, covered or removed.”

Tremblay said they’ve seen businesses where trucks have rammed into the entrance before, but nothing recently that would fall into the same category. As the matter remains under investigation, police are hoping that something from the footage will be familiar to members of the public.

Break-ins from Tuesday possibly connected

Of the other 11 break and enter investigations from the week, Battlefords RCMP are looking closely at a pair of calls from Tuesday evening that occurred near each other.

The first was called while the break-in was in progress at a residence on the 100 block of 25th St. in Battleford around 7:25 p.m. The four suspects were reportedly causing damage to the front door before fleeing. They’re described as two males wearing black hoodies and black pants, a third person wearing a grey hoodie and carrying a bat and a female wearing a black hoodie and flip flops.

A second incident was called almost at the same time from a residence on the 100 block of 26th St., which was apparently broken into some time prior to 7:00 p.m. A TV and other personal items were reportedly taken.

Tremblay said the proximity of the two incidents that evening is curious.

“One was witnessed, the other was discovered by the homeowners when they got home, so there’s no way of knowing when that happened,” he said. “But they are similar in that the door was broken and the location [was close], so it’s likely they are connected.”

Anyone who noticed something suspicious in that area, or has security footage, can contact the detachment.

“We’re just hoping that if someone in that area noticed somebody in the area from 26th St.,” Tremblay said. “Certainly, if they were walking with a television that would be noticeable.”

Other Break-ins

Police arrested a 47 year old male following a reported break-in on 111th St. Tuesday afternoon. He was remanded taken on scene at a residence on the 1000 block. The accused has been released and is to appear in court on a charge of break and enter to a residence sometime in May.

Another break and enter occurred sometime overnight on April 13-14 to a business on the 2000 block of 102nd St. Computer equipment was reportedly stolen.

Also in that span was a break-in at a residence on the 1100 block of 106th St. at some point from April 13-15. In this case, a table saw and compressor were reported taken.

Lastly, an attempted break-in occurred at a residence on the 1500 block of 101st St. shortly after 2 a.m. on Monday. Suspects reportedly tried to gain entry from the front door, but fled in a darker four-door car when confronted.

Anyone with information on any incident can contact the Battlefords RCMP detachment, 310-RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
