RCMP Report Pt. 2: Break-ins, outstanding warrants

Apr 14, 2022 | 3:00 PM

The Battlefords RCMP detachment dealt with 13 break and enter investigations, several of which resulted in arrests.

Police arrested one suspect from a break and enter attempt on Moosomin First Nation on Monday who wielded a machete and fled police. Upon officers arriving, 20-year-old Jenna Haraburda attempted to run away on foot, but was swiftly detained.

She’s been charged with breaking and entering, theft under $5,000, resisting arrest, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and failing to comply with a release order. Haraburda made her first court appearance on Tuesday.

Sgt. Neil Tremblay said they have not been able to find connections between any of the thefts reported over the past week.

“Most were not business or residential related, they were almost all garages or small storage sheds, sporadically around the area,” he said. “As to whether they could be related, there’s no way to tell at this point.”

Two vehicle stops resulted in arrests. On April 8, patrolling members located a stolen vehicle on Battleford Road, where they were able to box it in with police cars. The suspect attempted to evade arrest and backed into a police vehicle and a patrol vehicle before being taken into custody.

Twenty-five-year-old Richard Wright has been charged with possession of stolen property, flight from police, dangerous driving, driving while prohibited and breach of probation. He also faces weapons charges after members found a machete and homemade taser during the arrest.

Wright appeared in court on Monday.

In one other case, a vehicle that had been reported stolen was located on Finlayson Island in Battleford on April 7. The driver fled the area leaving behind a 31-year-old-female passenger who was arrested. The 40-year-old male driver from Saskatoon was eventually arrested in the Biggar detachment area when his vehicle caught fire and was no longer operational. He faces charges of failing to comply with probation, flight from police and dangerous driving, along with additional chargers from the Biggar detachment.

Outstanding warrants and weapons charges

The Battlefords RCMP charged Blake Moccasin with two counts of flight from police after he failed to stop for a roadside checks in Saulteax First Nation and on Highway 4 near Battleford last week. Shortly after midnight on Wednesday, the accused was located and taken in custody on these charges, as well as outstanding warrants for assault and breaking and entering from an incident on Red Pheasant Cree Nation March 31. He also had failing to comply with release order warrants and appeared in court on Wednesday.

In another incident on Sunday, police followed up a report of suspicious people in an alley off of Clark Drive, where one was presumed to have a machete and gun. The suspect vehicle was later seized and a 31-year-old male and 35-year-old female were taken into custody. They face charges on unrelated matters, but this investigation is ongoing.

Lastly, members arrested 25-year-old Justice Katcheech on April 6, remanding him into custody for such charges as possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats and breach of probation. He reportedly pointed a firearm at another man during an argument in the Cochin district.

Anyone with information on any incident can contact the Battlefords RCMP, 310-RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
