Police charged a man on multiple criminal offences on April 6 who was already in custody for another crime.

Members received a report of a robbery at a business on Railway Avenue East that evening, where the male suspect was reported to have concealed property from the store and when confronted by staff, he pushed the employee down and fled the store. The suspect was later identified as 25-year-old local Ray Bird, who was arrested the following evening for reportedly shoplifting at a business on 100th St.

“He committed another theft at another business,” Tremblay said. “It was the same investigator, so when Bird was arrested, he was able to confirm it was the same individual.”

Bird is charged with robbery and breach of probation and was remanded into custody and made his first court appearance on April 8.

The detachment dealt with 52 total assault investigations, resulting in several arrests, including one stemming from a 911 call. Members found a man had assaulted and choked the caller at a residence on the 1400 block of 104th St. early in the morning on April 8.
