RCMP Report Pt. 2: Men charged for assault, threats, identify fraud

Battlefords RCMP made two arrests on March 26 related to an incident where men uttered threats and refused to leave a residence.

The call that evening reported two unwanted males in a home just outside North Battleford that not only refused to depart, but claimed to have a firearm. Members arrived and arrested the pair and did not locate a firearm, but one suspect did have ammunition.

As a result, 25-year-old Isaiah Thomas was remanded in custody on charges of uttering threats, obstruction and assault. The other accused, Lorenz Paskimin, faces identity fraud and failing to comply with a release order. Both made their first court appearances on March 28.

Other assault investigations

The detachment had more than 50 files related to assault over the past two weeks, including several with serious outcomes.

In one case from March 31, a 26-year-old male has charges pending, after allegedly assaulting two people in a home on Red Pheasant Cree Nation and throwing several items around the house before fleeing. He was reportedly known to the occupants of the home. Charges include assault, mischief and breaking and entering, while investigation is ongoing.

Other reports still under investigation include an altercation from March 27 where two women were arrested on 102nd St. and the arrest of a 46-year-old male for allegedly assaulting a woman on 104th St. on March 31.

Break and enters

Police arrested a 21-year-old male on March 26, after being called to a break-in on the 1000 block of 104th St. He faces one count of break and enter.

A pair of break-ins to business in North Battleford on April 2 remain under investigation. This includes a business on the 1400 block of 100th St., where the suspect(s) smashed the front door glass before fleeing, and a business on the 2600 block of 98th St., where the suspect(s) damaged the front door. The two incidents were reported just a few hours apart.

“These might be related, based on timing and location,” Sgt. Neil Tremblay said. “But beyond that, we’re not sure [for other incidents].”

Other incidents include a garage break-in on 33rd St. in Battleford on March 30 and a residence on 108th St. the evening of March 26, where a hot water heater, space heater and various tools were reported missing.

Other calls

There were eight vehicle theft reports, a decrease compared the winter months, though police are still looking for a grey 2018 Dodge Grand Caravan, with s Saskatchewan License of 872-LGE. It was reported stolen from a residence on the Sweetgrass First Nation sometime between March 31 and April 1.

Police also arrested a woman on March 25 for falsely calling in that a man on St. Laurent Drive was armed with a firearm and threatening people. She’s charged with public mischief.

Other files include 30 Missing Persons Reports (none active), 39 Mental Health investigations, 14 Traffic Collisions, 106 various traffic charges and five individuals charged with impaired driving.
