A Battlefords area teacher who is also a musician and singer-songwriter is excited to be releasing her first CD.

Jackie Kroczynski, who teaches music at North Battleford Comprehensive High School, will have a CD release party at She-NANIGANS performing arts venue on Friday night.

Kroczynski, who goes simply by the name Jackie K, has a new EP called “Look for the Little Things.”

She said she decided to pursue this new venture because the time was right for her.

“It was something that I always wanted to do, and it was time to not wait anymore,” she said. “I imagine there are other people who felt the same way during the last couple of years about whatever projects they had always wanted to undertake. The time seemed to be right.”

The multi-skilled artist wrote the songs on the album, and collaborated with a songwriter friend from Toronto on one of the songs – called “Dandelions Everywhere.”

Kroczynski will be performing music from the album with a full band at the upcoming show.

“Look for the Little Things” features four songs.

The EP includes three new songs that haven’t been released before. The fourth song is a remastered and remixed version of one she previously released.

Her band performing at the release show will feature Tom Kroczynski, Sean Davis Newton, Connor Newton, Patrick Whelan and Niall Cubbon.

Jackie describes her sound as having a bit of an Americana-influence, but she says it is not straight-up country music but there is some of that influence also.

Kroczynski also plans to take her music on the road when she has time, to perform in some other communities in the future as well.

“We hope to get out and play,” she said. “We hope to get out to Edmonton and Regina, wherever we can get some gigs. It’s just a matter of figuring out when, how and getting everyone’s schedule sorted out. That is kind of the plan where it is right now.”

Kroczynski started to make a bit of a name for herself earlier this year when she had some success with her song, Night at the Opry, in the Canadian Indie Country Countdown.

For the future, Kroczynski has a goal to put out a full length CD later next year.

“I’m writing all the time,” she said. “I’ll continue to always write music.”

Tickets for the show Friday are available at the door and through She-NANIGANS.
