Buyer plans to build new apartment building in North Battleford

The City of North Battleford will see some new housing development in the future.

Director of Corporate Services Jennifer Niesink informed council at its recent meeting that the city received a request from an individual to purchase the city’s lot at 2424 Buhler Avenue to build an apartment building. The offer for the lot came in at $190,000.

“It is the first time in a very long time the city has seen an apartment building, as opposed to condos, being built,” Niesink said. “So it will be a nice fill in the gap in our housing. We’re thrilled to see it go forward.”

Council supported administration’s recommendation to approve the sale for $190,000 plus GST.

Niesink said the purchaser was presented with all the city’s available lots, and selected the one at this location to move forward with.

She said the purchaser is working with his engineers on the project over the winter, and is hopeful to start construction in the spring of 2022.

Mayor David Gillan was excited to hear of the initiative.

“It’s great news,” he said. “More development. Excellent.”
