RCMP Report: Teens still missing

Jun 16, 2021 | 5:21 PM

SBattlefords RCMP are still searching for 13-year-olds Skyler Tinker and Aliyah Natomagan.

The two were initially reported missing in late May and ran away from home again after recently having been found. Sgt. Neil Tremblay said it remains likely that they headed to Saskatoon, based on the latest information.

“We haven’t had any luck locating them and neither has Saskatoon police at this point,” he said.

Tremblay said it’s important for any with information on the two teens to reach out to law enforcement as they continue to search.

The detachment reported eight missing persons cases in total this week, with three remaining active. Some contact has been made with 21-year-old woman Josie Diamond, however, she is refusing to provide details to police or confirm her location with her family. Tremblay said the level of concern in that regard is down somewhat, due to her willingness to talk to some family.

“However, her whereabouts are not 100 per cent certain and not to the satisfaction of the family,” he said. “So, we’re still trying to wrap up that search.”

Earlier on today, 80-year-old Lawrence Courterille was found after he was reported missing on Tuesday. Tremblay said there were some health issues according to the family when they reported him as missing, but the 80 year-old was found in good condition.

Multiple assault cases and two warrants

Battlefords RCMP responded to 489 total calls over the past week, which included 27 assault investigations, with three ongoing cases of note, including two warrants.

Nineteen-year-old Guillermo Moore is wanted for assault, mischief to property and two counts of breach of probation in connection with a reported assault on June 11 at the 1400 block of 102nd Street. Tremblay said they are familiar with Moore.

“This would be an altercation between people who were known to each other and not one that’s related to any other activity,” he said.

Also wanted by police is 18-year-old Jayden Soare for assault, assault with a weapon and mischief to property. This stems from a report on June 10, where a male discharged bear spray in a residence on the 1200 block of 111th street in North Battleford that morning. Soare is also known to police.

Another assault case mentioned in the report occurred on the 1900 block of 102nd Street in North Battleford on June 15. According to the RCMP, a resident mowing a lawn noticed two people engaging in intercourse on someone else’s property. The couple then became upset at being interrupted and began throwing rocks at the complainant. This remains under investigation.

Break and enter case results in arrest

There were seven reported break and enters in the community, one of which resulted in the arrest of a 33 year-old man. This followed a report of a suspicious male attempting to break into vehicles on 99th Street in North Battleford shortly after midnight on June 9. He faces charges of carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and possession of break and enter tools.

RCMP are also looking for an unknown younger female wearing a blue and orange shirt following a report from June 9 where she reportedly entered a home on the 900 block of North Battleford before 7:00 a.m. that morning. The case is still under investigation.

Securing vehicles remains a priority

Despite the warmer weather, vehicle thefts remain a weekly occurrence in the region. Tremblay said they had seven reported thefts last week, with three cases ongoing. These include:

  • A grey 2017 Dodge Journey with an Alberta license plate of CBJ-9251, reported stolen from the 1500 block of 104th Street in North Battleford on June 13.
  • A red 2008 Tomos Motorocycle with a Saskatchewan License plate of 0869FM, reported stolen from the 1200 block of 106th Street in North Battleford on June 8.
  • A white 2014 Ford F150 Supercrew with a Saskatchewan license plate of 015-LJB, reported stolen from Laurier Crescent in North Battleford on June 12.

To date this year, there have been 211 reported thefts or attempted thefts of vehicles and motorcycles in the area, compared to 479 over the course of 2020. Tremblay said they are still not seeing any pattern in terms of suspects, rather they’ve been taken at different times of the day for different reasons. He stressed motorists must continue to make sure their vehicles are not left unattended with the keys inside or while running.

“The most common element is that the keys are found somewhere in the vicinity of the vehicle,” he said. “Most new vehicles are immune to hotwiring, so theft requires the keys.”

Tremblay also stressed that this remains important in preventing other crimes from occurring, in addition to damage caused by the theft.

“Remember, some of these more elevated offences we’re seeing, whether it’s break and enters or firearms related, often involve vehicles which have previously been stolen,” he said.

Report relevant information

This week’s RCMP report also included three health/COVID violation investigations, 24 Mental Health Act investigations and two charges relating to impaired driving.

Anyone who has any information related to any of the incidents listed in the report, from wanted individuals to stolen vehicles, are urged to call the Battlefords RCMP detachment or Crime Stoppers.
